Welcome to our Kindergarten
Orewa Private Kindergarten is a purpose built early childhood centre, opened in 1997. We are located in an expanding residential area in close proximity to Orewa schools and shops, and we cater for children from both the surrounding urban and rural areas.
We offer a childcare programme and environment organised to enable children to initiate purposeful learning that promotes thinking, problem solving, planning, recall and challenge through independent and co-operative play. A free flow of activity between indoors and outdoors is encouraged.
A safe and healthy environment has been created in this purpose built centre, with spacious, light and welcoming indoor and outdoor areas. Whilst situated to obtain maximum lighting during play activities, there are also shaded areas providing protection from the sun.
All equipment and materials are accessible to children and selected to create an environment which invites exploration and active participation by each child in his/her own learning.
What the ERO says about us
Children learn in a well resourced, attractive environment that supports play for mixed-age groups and reflects their diverse cultures. They have many opportunities for literacy, mathematics and science learning as part of their play and discussions. They are confident communicators, who play cooperatively for long periods, are imaginative and investigative. Children have fun, experience challenge and success, and are eager to learn.

Session Times
We offer a choice between sessional or kindergarten day options. Morning sessions are available to all children, running from 8:45-11:45am. Children aged from 3-5 can attend afternoon sessions (12:00-3:00pm) or the kindergarten full day option, running from 8:45am-3:00pm.
Our Teachers
We believe that learning opportunities are enhanced by quality, individual interactions between staff and children. We therefore provide a high ratio of staff to children, allowing children to:
- bond with their teachers,
- have activities tailored to their needs and interests,
- become deeply involved in the childcare programme,
- learn positive problem solving and conflict resolution strategies,
- feel secure in the knowledge that their needs will be taken care of and
- explore the environment safely.
Policies
Our policies and procedures, covering aspects of the Kindergarten childcare programme, practices and management, can be viewed by the sign in book at the front door. Please feel free to discuss any issues with us.
